MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Russia and Iran have agreed pooled efforts are needed to fight against the Islamic State group and terrorism in general, since they pose a threat to all countries of the region, Alexei Pushkov, the chairman of the international committee of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house, said on Monday, commenting on the results of Duma speaker Sergei Natyshkin’s visit to Teheran.
“The sides shared approaches to the assessment of the developments in the Middle East and Asia Minor. They agreed pooled efforts are needed to fight against terrorism, since the Islamic State is a threat not only for those states that are currently in the zone of its activity, such as Syria and Iraq, but for all neighbouring states too,” he told journalists onboard a plane bound for Moscow.
He said that the Islamic State’s threats “are a very serious challenge to Russia’s and Iran’s security.”
“I think it was among the most topical subjects (during the visit) - the fight against terrorist in general and the Islamic State as its most aggressive and dangerous manifestation in the Middle East and Asia Minor,” Pushkov said.
While on a working visit to Teheran, Naryshkin met with his counterpart, Iran’s Majilis /parliament/ Speaker Ali Larijani and former President of Iran Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who is now heading the council that looks at the expediency of decision-making.
