MOSCOW, October 31 /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry is rendering all necessary assistance to Russian national Vadim Mikerin, the head of the TENAM Corporation, who has been detained in the United States, Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Foreign Ministry Ombudsman for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, said in a live interview aired by the state-owned Rossiya 24 TV channel on Friday.
“Our embassy in Washington has taken the situation under its control. We are rendering all necessary consular and legal assistance to the Russian national through the embassy’s contacts with his lawyers. Naturally, like in all similar cases, we will exert all necessary efforts to reliably protect the interests and legitimate rights of the Russian citizen,” Dolgov said.
The Russian embassy in the U.S. confirmed to TASS earlier on Friday that Mikerin had been detained last Wednesday. He is being charged with economic offences.
TENAM Corporation is an American subsidiary of OAO Techsnabexport (TENEX) joint-stock company, which is one of the world’s leading exporters of products of the initial stage of the nuclear fuel cycle. The Atomenergoprom joint-stock company, incorporated into the Rosatom State Corporation, holds a 100% stake in TENEX.
