Russia intends to continue help Lebanon in the fight against extremism

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Russia expresses solidarity with the efforts taken by the Lebanese government and the Armed Forces to combat international terrorism, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Russia intends to continue aid to the country to fighting extremism, the ministry said.

“This corresponds to the Russian principled policy towards supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and stability,” it said.

“The situation in Lebanon remains tense. According to coming reports, these days the Lebanese army and law enforcement structures are conducting a large-scale operation to neutralise militants of the Islamic State and Jabhar al-Nusra terrorist groups in Bab al-Tabbaneh and other neighbourhoods of Tripoli,” the ministry said.

“The actions by the Lebanese law enforcement structures for eliminating the terrorist threat are understood and backed by leading political forces of the country and confessional groups of the population,” it said.
