Islamic clerical education in Russia to counter extremism — FSB chief

MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov has offered to develop education of Islamic clergymen in Russia to avoid the propaganda of destructive ideas.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee on Tuesday, he noted that “the practice of training preachers from Russian citizens at foreign Islamic educational centers has become massive, as the latter upon return to the homeland propagate destructive religious ideas.”

“In this regard, developing a system of qualitative spiritual education of traditional Islam at domestic religious establishments is important,” Bortnikov noted.
