MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. Moscow will do its best to support election procedures in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR, respectively), Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday, commenting on pronouncements by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, who had called on the Russian authorities to reason the DPR and LPR leaders to drop the idea of local elections.

“Klimkin should be shown the protocol signed in Minsk on September 5,” Lukashevich said, adding that one of the protocol’s provisions was to “ensure the organization of early local elections in line with the Ukrainian law on temporary procedure of local self-government in some districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”

“It is necessary to implement what we have agreed about,” the Russian diplomat stressed. “It is necessary to create conditions for the elections rather than to dissuade people from them. It is in the framework of the national dialogue which is called to ensure national reconciliation in Ukraine.”

“We will do our best to support any electoral procedures and will watch closely how they are implemented,” he added.
