MOSCOW, September 15. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday criticized the European Union’s sanctions policy against Moscow following a meeting between senior Russian and EU diplomats.

“The Russian side gave a negative assessment to the entry into force of a new package of EU restrictive measures regarding Russia,” the ministry said after Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met with the head of the EU’s mission to Russia, Vygaudas Usackas.

“It was stressed that further unwinding by the EU of its sanctions spiral, among other things, considerably narrows opportunities for substantial dialogue,” it said.

“The actions of the EU leadership do not leave the Russian side any other choice than to take additional measures to protect our interests,” the statement said.
