The staff of the Russian Embassy detained in Kiev on August 28

MOSCOW, August 30 /ITAR-TASS/ Two Russian embassy staff members who were detained in Kiev have been released and have returned to the homeland, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The two guards of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine, who were detained in Kiev, were released on Saturday as a result of efforts that were made, the ministry said.

On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that one more outrageous action was committed in Kiev on August 28 against Russian embassy staff, including the ambassador’s guard.

Though the Russians presented diplomatic passports, they were detained under the false pretext that allegedly “they had grenades”, the ministry said. They were detained when leaving a caf in Kiev.

Moscow called on Ukrainian authorities to stop provocations against Russian diplomatic representative offices and diplomatic staff in Ukraine.
