ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 23 (Itar-Tass) - Customs officers were evacuated from two Russian border checkpoints in the Rostov region on Saturday because of intensive gunfire on the Ukrainian side, the head of the press service of the Southern Customs Department, Rayan Farukshin, told Itar-Tass.
Officers were evacuated from the checkpoint of Matveyev Kurgan at 05:30 Moscow time. When the shooting subsided at 08:00, they returned to the station. There was no damage.
The evacuated officers from the checkpoint of Veselo-Voznesensk did not return yet. They escaped to a safe place at 09:45 Moscow time because of very close gunfire in Ukraine's territory, the official said.
