YEKATERINBURG, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. The federal service for protection of consumer rights (Rospotrendazor) during inspections in the Sverdlovsk region in the Urals found a substance, used for insect poisoning, in US made whiskey of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey brand.

The experts said that that substance, which chemical formula includes benzyl ether components, produces a hypnotic effect, might cause an allergic reaction and serious nervous disorders; due to its destructive effect the substance is widely used for insect poisoning.

Alexander Gorelin - chief of the marketing department of the Brown-Forman Rus company which represents Jack Daniel’s in Russia, said that an official representative of Jack Daniel's would make independent tests of the whiskey declared poisonous.

"We have seen Rospotrebnadzor's official website which released the results of laboratory tests. We are planning to make independent tests of the whiskey. Our products are safe for use and pose no threat to the health of the population," Gorelin said.

Last week inspections showed serious violations in the distribution of the Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey and found ingredients in the drink normally not used in whiskey production.

The Brown-Forman Rus company, which represents Jack Daniel's in Russia, declared then that Rospotrebnadzor had mistaken Jack Daniel's liquor for whiskey. Apart from whiskey, the liquor contains sugar and honey, they said.
