Putin briefs Merkel on progress in providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine

MOSCOW, August 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has briefed Germany’s Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on progress in implementing in close coordination with the International Red Cross the Russian initiative to provide humanitarian assistance to civilian population in the zone of the intra-Ukrainian military conflict, the Kremlin’s press-service has said.

The telephone conversation was held at the initiative of the German side.

Concern was expressed over the aggravating humanitarian disaster in Ukraine.

The discussion was continued of possible formats of international assistance to a political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.
