Russia to start testing new A-100 long-range radar detection aircraft in 2017

ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow region), August 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Testing of Russia's new long-range radar detection aircraft A-100 is expected to begin in 2017, the plane's developer said on Thursday.

Anatoly Krailyuk, a senior official at the Vega radio-engineering company, said an A-100 pilot model will be ready for testing in 2016.

He said the new plane based on the new Il-476 transport aircraft "definitely surpasses" the Soviet-built airborne early warning aircraft A-50, which entered into service 30 years ago.

"We hope to launch the plane's mass production for the Russian Defense Ministry," Krailyuk said.
