Prime Minister Medvedev to discuss cooperation with Mozambican counterpart

MOSCOW, July 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will hold talks with his visiting Mozambican colleague Alberto Vaquina on Friday to discuss economic, investment, energy, educational and other areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Joint activities in the fuel and energy sector will be given special attention. “Mozambique has unique reserves of natural gas and an advantageous geographical position with easy access to the sea. Russian companies [Gazprom, Rosneft, Lukoil, Inter RAO] are considering participating in hydrocarbon exploration and production projects and cooperating in the power and coal industries,” the Russian government said.

In the field of education, the government has increased the number of grants for Mozambican students in Russian universities to 40 this year.

The two countries will sign several bilateral documents during Vaquina’s working visit to Moscow.

Last year, Mozambique ranked seventh among sub-Saharan countries in terms of trade with Russia. Trade turnover between the two countries increased by 53.2% to $131.5 million. Russian export to Mozambique amounted to $78.7 million, import to $52.8 million.

Vaquina has been holding the post of prime minister since 2012. He is visiting Russia between July 24 and July 26. Prior to that, he visited Belarus on July 21-24.
