MOSCOW, July 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law obliging mail services and social networks to store personal data of domestic users only on servers located on the Russian territory, according to a document released Tuesday.

The law will come into effect on September 1, 2016.

Providers must ensure that information is added, systematized, stored, verified and updated by using domestically-located servers. The personal data comprise e-mail addresses, correspondence and so forth.

The law stipulates sanctions for violations. Providers will be added to a special register of violators for a failure to follow the domain and network requirements, while access to an information resource will be restricted until violations are not fixed.
