MOSCOW, July 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Irina Prokhorova, the chairperson of the federal committee central decision-making body of the Civil Platform liberal party, said Thursday she resigns from the post.
As she took the floor at Friday’s meeting of the committee, she said her decision came in the wake of the party’s inner divisions over Crimea's accession to Russia.
“For me, this is an incredibly knotty situation, and I’m in the grips of a conflict between emotions and the sense of duty,” Prokhorova said. “I am unable to express my position openly because I’ll otherwise start contradicting the majority of the party members,” she added.
“That’s a very difficult decision for me,” she said, adding that she was going to remain a member of the party all the same.
