“The US Administration has de facto said the US is going over to a Cold War against us,” he said Friday speaking live on the Rossiya-24 news channel.
When Washington speaks about considering a containment strategy towards Russia and claims Russia is an aggressor in Ukraine, along with hushing up the importance of Russian-American collaboration, “one really gets an impression that the US has decided to discard the prospects for normalization of bilateral relations,” Dr Pushkov said.
“It really seams they’ve already declared a Cold War on us,” he said.
Pushkov, who is also one of the top-rated news analysts in Russia, said the current official policy conducted by President Barack Obama pursues the goals of “Russia’s international isolation.”
“A return to the rhetoric and logic of the Cold War era and to the policies of isolation is in progress,” he said. “Let’s not deceive ourselves. There’s no normalization between Russia and the US and it’s scarcely in the cards over the foreseeable future.”
He is confident that the Obama Administration has made its choice and “this choice runs counter to a normalization of relations with Russia.”
