Russia voices protest over attack on its border checkpoint by Ukrainian army

Provocations by Ukraine grossly violate the fundamental principles of international law, the Foreign Ministry said

MOSCOW, June 28, 20:34 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia voiced strong protest over an attack on its border checkpoint by the Ukrainian army, the Foreign Ministry said on Facebook on Saturday, June 28.

“Today the Ukrainian security forces fired at Checkpoint Gukovo in the Rostov Region. The Customs post building was seriously damaged. What is especially disturbing is that refugees from Ukraine, its citizens were there [at the time of the attack]. It is by mere luck that none of them was hurt. Shells also landed in nearby settlements on the territory of the Russian Federation. Russia is voicing strong protest in connection with such provocations by Ukraine, which grossly violate the fundamental principles of international law,” the ministry said.

It said the attack was one more in a series of violations of the ceasefire announced by Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko and demanded that Kiev punish those responsible.
