350 militants killed in North Caucasus in 4 months of 2014 — minister

MOSCOW, June 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Some 350 militants were killed in the North Caucasus in the first four months of this year, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev told lawmakers at the State Duma on Wednesday.

Police, jointly with the Federal Security Service, are implementing measures to eliminate armed groups and expose and prosecute their leaders and participants on a permanent basis, Kolokoltsev said, adding that there were organizers and perpetrators of terrorist attacks among those killed by police.

Kolokoltsev said Russia’s Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service have quashed the activity of 20 nationalist groups since the beginning of the year

“Extremism-related crimes are still in the center of our attention,” Kolokoltsev said. “More than 70% of them have been exposed by police this year.”

“Together with the Russian Federal Security Service, we have terminated the activity of 20 especially dangerous nationalist groups in various regions of the country,” he said.
