ST PETERSBURG, June 10. /ITAR-TASS/. A court in St Petersburg is expected on Tuesday to pass a verdict in the case over the death of Zenit football club fan Yevgeny Dmitriyev in March 2013.
Dmitriyev died of his wounds inflicted during a street attack in March 2013, lawyer Anton Zharuk who represents the interests of Dmitriyev's family, told ITAR-TASS.
At the previous hearing on June 5, the prosecution demanded that defendant Marat Musayev be sentenced to nine years in a maximum security penitentiary.
The investigators said Musayev punched Dmitriyev in a conflict on the Griboyedov Embankment on February 24, 2013. Dmitriyev, also known as Marish among Petersburg football fans, hit his head hard on the asphalt and died three weeks later in hospital without regaining consciousness. His death caused an outcry among Zenit football club fans.
Musayev was detained in Dagestan in late March 2013.
