Vladimir Putin sets up Presidential Council on Russian language

MOSCOW, June 09. /ITAR-TASS/. President Putin has signed a decree on establishing a Presidential Council on Russian language, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.

The Council has been set up “to ensure development, protection of the Russian language and provide it with state support as an official language of the Russian Federation; as well as to enhance activities of state authorities of the Russian Federation,” the decree says.

The decree also stipulates the responsibilities of the Council on Russian language and announces the names of its members. Presidential adviser on culture Vladimir Tolstoi will head the Council, which incorporates more than 40 members, including ITAR-TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov.
