Putin in Astrakhan to discuss fuel and energy sector-related matters

MOSCOW, June 04. /ITAR-TASS/. In Astrakhan on Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin will hold a session of the presidential Commission on fuel-and-energy sector (FES) development strategy and environmental safety, the Kremlin press service announced.

"Those present at the session will consider matters aimed at diversifying orientations for the development of the fuel and energy sector of the Russian economy, the implementation of a number of FES investment projects in the Far Eastern Federal District, as well as the problems of pricing on the internal market of gas," a press service official pointed out.

Directors of the economic segment of the presidential and government administrations, Federal services and agencies, the heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and representatives of Russian fuel-producing and energy companies will participate in the Commission's session.

Putin will also visit the Astrakhan state opera and ballet theatre.

The Commission on FES strategic development and environmental safety was set up in June 2012. The Commission is chaired by the President of Russia, and is comprised of the executives of FES major companies, the heads of respective ministries and departments, members of the scientific community, etc.

The previous session of the Commission took place in Kemerovo in August 2013. It dealt with the problems of the coal industry. Prior to that, the Commission also discussed matters concerning electric power engineering, the production and sales of gas, and a Doctrine of Security of Energy Supply.
