Rights, freedoms of compatriots absolute priority of Russian foreign policy — Lavrov

MOSCOW, June 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia will continue working to strengthen the global status of the national language and culture, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told participants of an international project for young leaders.

“In recent years, the project has set itself up as a useful communication platform for the younger generation of compatriots,” Lavrov said in a message of greeting on Monday.

“Amid a highly volatile world situation, characterized by escalating global competition, creative energy and active involvement of the youth are especially required," he said. "You will have to take up the baton to contribute to the noble cause of consolidating the Russian world."

“Full protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of compatriots is an absolute priority of the Russian foreign policy,” Lavrov told his audience. “These are the aims of the Government Commission for Compatriots Living Abroad and the Fund to Support and Protect the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad."

“It is most important nowadays to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine and start an inclusive internal Ukrainian dialogue aimed at securing the interests of all regions of the country,” Lavrov added. “We will continue taking necessary measures to strengthen the positions of the Russian language and Russian culture, and to preserve our common identity."
