MAKHACHKALA, May 31 /ITAR-TASS/. Law enforcers have killed one suspected militant near the village of Soshratl in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Friday, a Dagestani law enforcement source has told Itar-Tass.
“The shooting occurred at about 17:00 Moscow Time. According to preliminary data, one militant was killed. The situation is being specified,” the source said.
He said one law enforcement officer was wounded in the clash with suspected militants.
The Dagestani Interior Ministry confirmed the report, adding that the wounded officer has undergone surgery but is still in serious condition.
Manhunt activities are underway, it said.
Russia’s law enforcement agencies continue fighting militants in Dagestan over 13 years since the battle phase of the second war against Islamist separatists in the neighboring Chechnya came to an end in 2000. Attacks on security officials and civilians occur from time to time in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
