New S-400 Triumph air defense systems to be delivered to Kamchatka by end of 2014

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, May 30. /ITAR-TASS/. The new air defense missile systems S-400 (Triumph) will be delivered to Kamchatka by the end of 2014, Commander of the Eastern Military District Colonel General Sergei Surovikin said on Friday at a visiting session of the military council without specifying their number.

“The S-400 air defense missile systems, Bal-E coastal missile systems, the Ilyushin Il-38N modernized planes will be delivered to Kamchatka during the year, and in 2015 the regional Marine Corps unit will have the new Bumerang (Boomerang) armored personnel carriers, and the brigade of ships for the close protection of the sea area will receive three modern corvettes,” he said.

The troops of the Eastern Military District this year will receive a total more than 500 samples of modern weapons and equipment, the commander said.

He recalled that modernization of the weapons system in the Russian Far East had been launched in 2013. Thus, the first in the Eastern Military District drone aircraft group, equipped with the Forpost type drones has appeared in Kamchatka. In addition, the Sukhoi Su-35 and Su-30SM newest fighters, Kamov Ka-52 combat helicopters, Mil Mi-8AMTSh transport-assault helicopters, Iskander tactical missile systems, Bal coastal missile systems and Pantsir-S air defense missile gun systems have been delivered there.

The first S-400 missile systems had been delivered to the Russian Pacific Fleet in 2013.
