ST. PETERSBURG, May 15. /ITAR-TASS/. Attempts to politicize the activity of UNESCO provide no benefit to the organization, Russia’s high-ranking diplomat has said.

“UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization] is a non-politicized organization. It is designed to deal with social, humanitarian and scientific problems, and develop a cultural dialogue between states,” Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said at the XIV International Likachev Scientific Conference on Thursday.

“In recent times the attempts have been made to politicize the UNESCO activities,” he said.

“Instead of dealing with issues under the Charter, politicized resolutions, including on Crimean and Ukrainian topics, are submitted. They provide no benefit to global development,” Gatilov said.
