Criminal case launched over hostage taking at bank in Belgorod

The man who seized the bank is currently being interrogated

BELGOROD, April 21. /ITAR-TASS /. A criminal investigation has been launched over the hostage taking at the Zapadny bank n Russia's Belgorod, the press service of Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Belgorod Oblast reported. A criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article 206 of the Criminal Code (taking of hostages). This information was confirmed by the head of the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs Elena Checheneva. She added that man who seized the bank is currently being interrogated. The man was armed with a hunting rifle and demanded 25 million rubles (about $694,400). The man reportedly wanted his money back after learning that the bank’s license had been revoked. After negotiations with police, he turned in the weapon and was arrested. The Bank of Russia on April 21 revoked the license for banking operations in Moscow bank Zapadny.
