Russian emergencies minister urges to enhance monitoring of wildfire situation

MOSCOW, April 20, /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov has urged emergencies services to keep a close eye on the wildfire situation in Russia’s Siberian and Far Eastern regions in view of the unfavourable weather forecasts.

“Wildfire situation forecasts are unfavourable. The task is to enhance the system of monitoring and control,” he said on Sunday at a meeting of the working group of the governmental emergencies commission.

He said that a system of space monitoring was employed to keep the situation under control. Data from this system were sent to heads of municipal formations daily. “If necessary, we will enhance firefighter corps,” he pledged.
