Two men die as WWII shell explodes

The press service says three Moscow residents came to the region to dig out historical objects for their own purposes

TVER, April 20, /ITAR-TASS/. In Russia’s Tver region a shell, which three men found in a forest, exploded as one of the men threw it into the fire, press service of the local police told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

The accident happened on April 20 at 00:45 in the Tver region.

The press service says three Moscow residents came to the region to dig out historical objects for their own purposes.

“They found an artillery shell, which had remained in the ground from the times of World War II,” the press service said. “As the men got drunk, one of them threw it into the fire. The shell exploded.”

During the explosion, by the fire were two men. One of them died immediately, and the other one died of injuries at hospital. “The third one was not nearby at the moment,” the press service added.

The police continue checking. At the place of the explosion remains a shell-hole of a hundred by forty centimetres.
