MOSCOW, April 19, /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow supports the efforts of Egypt’s authorities in fighting terrorism, Russia’s foreign ministry said on Saturday.
An explosive device went off on Friday night in Cairo, killing a police officer and injuring several people.
“We strongly condemn this attack. Criminal acts of the kind cannot be justified,” the foreign ministry said. Moscow "is forced to state regretfully an increase in recurrence of terrorist attacks in the Egyptian capital, where the attacks are aimed at law enforcement officers and civilians.”
"We support the efforts of the Egyptian authorities to combat terrorist manifestations and to restore order,” the source said. “It is imperative that the forthcoming presidential election in Egypt is held in a peaceful atmosphere.”
The Russian foreign ministry reiterates its recommendation to Russians visiting Egypt “not to leave the resort areas and not to visit major cities and towns, where increased terrorist risk remains and the criminal situation is tense.
