Russian FM should closely follow implementation of Geneva agreements on Ukraine — MP

The Geneva agreements “are a hopeful, but modest, step towards settling the conflict in Ukraine”, the first deputy chairman of A Just Russia party faction in the State Duma says

MOSCOW, April 18. /ITAR-TASS/. A Just Russia, the moderate-left State Duma (lower house of parliament) party, has called on the Russian Foreign Ministry to closely follow the implementation of the agreements on Ukraine reached in Geneva on April 17.

The Geneva agreements “are a hopeful, but modest, step towards settling the conflict in Ukraine”, the first deputy chairman of A Just Russia party faction in the lower house, Mikhail Yemelyanov, said on Friday.

“So far these agreements have not been backed up with either mechanism for implementation or goodwill from all participants,” Yemelyanov added.

“Today Ukraine has said it does not wish to implement them until Russia gives up weapons in the south-east. The United States threatens to impose ‘additional costs’,” Yemelyanov said.

“Western states and Ukraine interpret them (the agreements) unilaterally. The east must be disarmed. Russia should not interfere and support Russian-speakers. Western Ukraine, the Right Sector and the country’s leadership can do what they want,” he said.
