Gunmen kill lawmaker in North Caucasus’ Dagestan

According to a source, Musa Islavov previously suffered another attempt on his life and was wounded

MOSCOW, April 17./ITAR-TASS/. A lawmaker of the legislative assembly in the Russian North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan was killed in the Dagestani town of Khasavyurt in a gunfire at a car with him inside it, the website of the Russian Investigative Committee reported.

“Unidentified gunmen opened gunfire at a Lexus 470, in which a lawmaker of the people’s legislative assembly in the Republic of Dagestan, Deputy Chairman of the Budget Committee Musa Islavov and his driver were driving at around 8 a.m. Moscow time (4:00 GMT) on April 17, 2014. The killers supposedly escaped in a Lada Priora car. Islavov died of gunshot wounds, the driver was taken to hospital in heavy condition,” the committee stated.

 

Previous attempt on Islavov

Musa Islavov has received numerous threats from gunmen and has already suffered an attempt on his life before, a source in republican law enforcement agencies told ITAR-TASS.

“According to operational information, the lawmaker has repeatedly received threats from gunmen of a gang which was rampaging in Khasavyurt district. He suffered an attempt on his life in the previous year. Then, Islavov was wounded in his hip and hand in a shootout,” the source said.

A criminal case was opened for murder committed by an armed group, attempted murder of two and more people, illegal circulation of weapons and deliberate damage to someone else’s property.

Investigative actions are being taken to find all details of the crime and motives for homicide. The version linked with Islavov’s work is being investigated, the source said.
