Presidents of Russia and China to meet several times this year — Lavrov

MOSCOW, April 15. /ITAR-TASS/. The presidents of Russia and China will meet several times this year.

Agendas take them to summits of the BRICS developing-nation assembly of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa; to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation comprising states in Europe, the Near East, Central Asia and South East Asia; and to a summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation states in Beijing.

“Relations between Russia and China have reached an unprecedentedly high level," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday.

“This year’s opening meeting was in [Russia's Black Sea resort] Sochi on February 6," he said. "It was the Chinese president’s first visit to Russia, for the Winter Olympics.

“Today, we have discussed preparations for this year’s main event, President Putin’s visit to China and his participation at a session of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia in Shanghai in May,” Lavrov said.

The foreign ministers had also “focused attention on negotiating approaches to celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory in the Second World War,” and events during a year of youth exchanges.
