Cambodia, Russia to broaden cooperation in diverse areas

HANOI, April 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Cambodia attaches great importance to relations with Russia and wants to continue developing them in the future, Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni said on Friday as he received credentials from Russia’s Ambassador Dmitry Tsvetkov in the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

“We highly appreciate that wholehearted help and support the Soviet Union and then Russia has been rendering to the people of Cambodia in the issue of social and economic development,” the monarch said, noting that Russia-Cambodia relations were based on deep respect and mutual support.

The Russian ambassador said Moscow was interested in developing relations with Cambodia, which offered great opportunities for cooperation in various fields, mainly in trade, investment and economic spheres.

“Russia wants to strengthen traditionally friendly ties with the Kingdom of Cambodia and to develop multi-faceted cooperation between our countries,” Tsvetkov said in the official language of Campodia, Khmer.

For almost sixty years of Russia-Cambodia diplomatic relations, Tsvetkov has become the first Russian ambassador in Cambodia speaking Khmer.
