Russia expects international community’s response to Ukraine’s preventive detention bill

MOSCOW, April 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is waiting for a response from the international community and human rights organizations to the bill submitted to Ukraine’s parliament on the preventive detention of persons who may pose a threat to national security, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The bill provides for a possibility to detain Ukrainian nationals who, according to the bill’s authors, threaten the interests of the state and society and the country’s territorial integrity,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.

“Russia is expecting a response to such sort of initiatives by Ukraine’s new leadership from the Western partners who profess commitment to the advancement of democracy in the post-Soviet space. Also, we are waiting for a proper response from human rights organizations in Russia, Ukraine and other foreign countries,” the Foreign Ministry said.
