Independent fiber-optic channel to be laid in Crimea by mid-April — Russian PM

SIMFEROPOL, March 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Works to lay a fiber-optic cable channel independent of foreign communications companies will be completed in Crimea by mid-April, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a government meeting held in Crimea’s capital Simferopol on Monday.

Medvedev said that effective work of law enforcement agencies on the Crimean Peninsula depends to a considerable degree on “reliable information communications protected from outside interference.”

“Everyone needs access to federal databases and electronic tools,” Medvedev said. “Technologically, communications with Russia are currently ensured with support from the Defense Ministry.”
