NOVO-OGAREVO, March 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia should record сitizens having a dual citizenship. "We must and we have the right to know who lives in Russia,” the President noted.
The head of the Federation Council Committee Andrey Klishas brought up the topic of the citizenship law. He offered "to introduce the norm of legislation, so citizens holding passports of other countries must notify the Russian Federation."
"For the concealment of the fact another nationality to criminalize in the form of community service," he said.
The parliamentarian quoted the oath of allegiance, which US citizens, having another nationality, bring. "An example of an oath of people taking foreign citizenship must not be overlooked," Putin responded.
However, in his opinion, "there cannot be too overdone, responsibility should not be excessive, although, of course, the responsibility should be."
"Most important that we have to fix the fact of dual citizenship," the president noted. Vladimir Putin asked lawmakers to think about appropriate punishment of the fact of concealment of dual citizenship.
