Ukraine extradites suspected criminal in Chechnya to Russia

MOSCOW, March 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine has extradited a Russian citizen accused of involvement in a gang in the Russian North Caucasian Republic of Chechnya, the press service of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office told ITAR-TASS on Thursday.

“The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office has met a request from the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to extradite Russian citizen Mohammed Migaev to bring him to criminal responsibility for participation in an armed unit not envisaged by federal law, illegal acquisition, storage, carrying and sale of firearms and ammunition and participation in a gang,” the press service said.

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office noted that Migaev had participated in an attack on people in settlement Roshni-Chu in Urus-Martan district of Chechnya.

Russia’s Federal Security Service investigation department is probing the criminal case versus Migaev. “As Migaev escaped from investigation bodies, he was put on international wanted list in 2008. He was detained in the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odessa in December 2013,” the press service said.

In January 2014 the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has made an extradition request for Migaev to their Ukrainian partners to bring him to criminal responsibility. The extradition request was met in March 2014.

“Migaev was handed over to Russian law enforcement agencies,” the legal supervisory agency said.
