MOSCOW, March 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has called for preventing armed escalation in Syria and settling the conflict by peaceful means.
Commenting on the latest events in the north of Syria, the Foreign Ministry said it was necessary to act in strict compliance with the spirit and letter of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012.
“Based on the Geneva communique all parties and countries of the region took part in the Geneva II Conference in Montreux on January 22, 2014,” the ministry said.
“The armed conflict in Syria can be only stopped by dialogue,” the ministry said.
Russia demands efforts should be coordinated to fight terrorism in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions, the ministry said.
