Court arrests former agriculture official in absentia

The judge ruled “to place Bazhanov under arrest for two months from the moment of detention"

MOSCOW, March 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Tverskoy district court in Moscow has sanctioned the arrest of former Deputy Agriculture Minister Alexei Bazhanov in credit fraud case on Monday. The court has satisfied a request from the detective.

“Court came to conclusion to satisfy the detective’s request to place Bazhanov into custody,” Judge Tatiana Neverova said.

Upon studying arguments given by litigating parties the court did not find any reasons for a more lenient verdict. Meanwhile, Bazhanov is accused of a grave property-related crime.

The judge ruled “to place Bazhanov under arrest for two months from the moment of detention.”

The term of investigation in the criminal case is extended until June 10, the court verdict reads. Bazhanov is already accused of massive credit fraud.
