Russia’s Emergencies Ministry warns on avalanche hazard in Sochi highlands

On Sunday, two women died in the avalanche on a ski track at highland resort Krasnaya Polyana

SOCHI, March 24, 13:05 /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) has issued a warning on avalanche hazard in the highlands near the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi. Avalanche hazard at an altitude of 1,300 meters and higher will persist until March 27, the main emergency situation department in southern Russia’s Krasnodar territory told Itar-Tass on Monday.

Skiing is permitted on the slopes at an altitude of no higher than 1,170 meters at highland resort Roza Khutor and mountain resort Gornaya Karusel in skiing area Circus-2 at an altitude of more than 2,200 metres, the ministry noted.
