Russia's Defense Ministry to get four Il-476 planes in 2014-2015

MOSCOW, March 19. /ITAR-TASS/. The JSC Ilyushin Aviation Complex plans to deliver to the Russian Defence Ministry this year the first and in 2015 - second batch of the Il-476 military-transport planes, Ilyushin Director General and Chief Designer Viktor Livanov told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The contract on the delivery to the Russian Defense Ministry of 39 military-transport planes of a new model Il-76MD-90A (Il-476) with the total cost of 140 billion rubles had been signed in October 2012.

“We have no doubt that this year we will, as a minimum, deliver one plane (to the Russian Defense Ministry), and most likely - two. And two more planes - next year,” Livanov said.

The Il-76-MD-90A military-transport plane is a heavily modified Il-76 transport plane that had been manufactured at the Tashkent-based aircraft plant TAPOiCh. The new plane has new modified long wing box panels, it is equipped with new engines, an upgraded fuel system, digital sighting and navigation system and automatic control system. It is planned to build a new AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) A-100 Premier plane on the basis of Il-476.
