MOSCOW, March 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Kazakhstani counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev on Sunday to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the referendum in Crimea.

During the conversation, which was held on Kazakhstan’s initiative, Putin and Nazarbayev continued to exchange views on the crisis in Ukraine, the Kremlin press service reported.

“The presidents of both countries noted the high level of the organisation of the referendum. The presidents said they were satisfied with the fact that the peninsula’s population had been given an opportunity to express their will on the most important issue,” the press service said.
