Russian skiers sweep podium in 10km standing free race at Paralympics

SOCHI, March 16, 11:06 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian skiers Alexander Pronkov, Vladimir Kononov and Vladislav Lekomtsev have swept the podium in 10km standing free race at the Winter Paralympic Games in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi on Sunday.

Pronkov has clinched the gold medal, Kononov has grabbed the silver medal, Lekomtsev has taken the bronze medal.

Eight Russian skiers participated in the race. Rushan Minnegulov came fourth, Kirill Mikhailov finished fifth, Sergey Lapkin - ninth, Azat Karachurin - 12th, Alexander Yaremchuk - 14th.

Russian team’s performance in Sochi became the best in the history of the Winter Paralympic Games. After the triumph in this ski race Russian national team has won 73 medals (28 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 20 bronze medals). Austrian Paralympic team has set the previous record with 70 medals.
