Deadly car accident leaves five pedestrians dead in Russia's Voronezh

MOSCOW, March 09 /ITAR-TASS/. A Volvo driver unexpectedly rushing to the pavement in the Russian southern city of Voronezh ran over a group of people, killing five of them and injuring 10 others. The accident occurred at 03.10 Moscow Standard Time on Sunday, the Russian Interior Ministry's press service told Itar-Tass.

"A driver at the wheel of a Volvo car drove onto the pavement in Bogdana Khmelnitskogo Street and hit a group of people standing near a street cafe," the police said. "After the accident, the unidentified person made a getaway abandoning the car. Two women and three men died on the spot."

The police said the search for a son of the woman owning the car is under way, since he is believed to have committed the offense.
