SEVASTOPOL, March 06. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has not refused to conduct joint exercises with Ukraine’s Navy “Fairway to Peace”, the Black Sea Fleet Headquarters told Itar-Tass.

“Ukraine’s refusal to take part in the exercises, which are aimed at training anti-piracy actions at sea, can only arouse regret,” the Black Sea Fleet Headquarters said.

“The Russian Black Sea Fleet command has not received an official notification from Ukraine’s Navy that it refuses to take part in the exercises,” the headquarters said.

Preparations for the exercises were in the final stage and a planning conference to determine their format was supposed to be held before the end of March.

Media reports earlier in the day quoted a Ukrainian Navy Command official as saying that the Ukrainian Navy would not participate in the joint exercises with Russia.
