Thousands gather for rally in Kamchatka to support Crimea, Ukraine people

Mass rallies in support of Ukraine and compatriots living there will continue in Russia later on Wednesday

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Up to 5,000 people have gathered for a rally on Lenin Square in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to express support for Ukraine's people.

The meeting was officially sanctioned by authorities. No public order violations were reported, the Russian Interior Ministry’s regional department said.

Representatives from students' and youth organizations, ethnic diasporas, workers' unions, Cossacks, political parties, workers' and public organizations, regional and city officials and deputies participated in the rally organized by the regional branch of the all-Russian Sodrujestvo (Cooperation) organization under slogans in support of Crimean residents, Sevastopol and all Ukrainian people, for peace, accord, stabilization and against nationalism.

The chairman of Sodrujestvo's regional organization, Vitaly Kibalov, proposed to establish brotherly ties between Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Sevastopol. Everyone supported the proposal.

Mass rallies in support of Ukraine and compatriots living there will continue in Russia later on Wednesday.

Residents will come for demonstrations in the Far East, Siberia, the Volga region and the Central Federal District.

People in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Gorno-Altaisk came for the rallies on Wednesday morning, and residents in Kazan and Kursk are expected to gather at 17:00 Moscow time (GMT+4).

Mass actions to express support for Ukraine's people and compatriots residing there began in Russia on Sunday. Tens of thousands of people gathered in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar for rallies organized by patriotic youth and veteran organizations. On March 3 and 4, mass meetings were held in large cities, including neighboring on Ukraine Belgorod, Bryansk, Novocherkassk, Rostov-on-Don and many others.
