ROSTOV-ON-DON, February 28. /ITAR-TASS/. The Rostov Region, which borders Ukraine, is ready if necessary to accept Ukrainian refugees and provide humanitarian aid for them.

"We will provide fifnancial and moral support, if Ukrainian residents ask for shelter. We'll do everything in our power for the people not to feel abandoned. They are our brothers," the head of the Kamensk district, Nikolai Kolzhanov, said in an interview to Itar-Tass. The area borders Ukraine's Lugansk region.

The district had temporary housing, he assured. "As a district head, I have some possibilities, and we will use them. There are also regional authorities. Such matters are not decided by one, he added.

The situation on the border is absolutely calm, Kolzhanov said.

Earlier, Governor Vasily Golubev stated the Rostov Region would continue developing economic cooperation with neighbouring Ukrainian regions. "It is necessary to strengthen ties even under the conditions uneasy for Ukraine," Golubev noted.

The border between Russia and Ukraine in the Rostov Region is 600 km long. About 300,000 people live in the region's zone of border cooperation.
