Russia becomes full IFAD member

ROME, February 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia on Wednesday, February 19, became a full member of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) at the 37th annual meeting of its governors in Rome.

Anna Valkova, deputy head of the Russian Finance Ministry’s Department of International Financial Relations, said, “Russia reiterated its readiness to cooperate as a responsible donor. Russia fully shares the IFAD goals and objectives to ensure agricultural development.”

Russia “welcomes IFAD’s contribution to the work on the food security agenda for the Russian presidency in the Group of Eight,” she said. “We invited IFAD member states to attend the global forum on baby nutrition to be held in Moscow in May,” Valkova said.

Russia has been a permanent donor of the World Food Programme since 2005. On April 3, 2006, it joined the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation. Russian is one of the official languages used by this organization.
