MOSCOW, February 17, 23:44 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia hopes that the formation of a new government in Lebanon on the basis of consensus among leading political forces will facilitate stability and security in the country, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday, February 17.
“We reaffirm the invariable position of Russia in support of the sovereignty, independence and integrity of the Lebanese Republic and the right of Lebanese people to determine their future within the framework of the Constitution and a broad national dialogue,” it said.
The formation of the government led by Tammam Salam is drawing to an end in Lebanon. On Saturday, February 15, President Michel Suleiman issued a decree under which the March 14 Coalition, the March 8 Alliance and centrists will each get eight seats in the 24-member government.
