Russian defence minister in Kamchatka to inspect Pacific Fleet submarines

VILYUCHINSK (Kamchatka peninsula), February 10 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Defence Minister General Sergei Shoigu arrived to Kamchatka Peninsula on Monday on a working trip to inspect submarine force of Russian Pacific Fleet, spokesman of Russian Defence Ministry Igor Konashenkov said Monday.

“The agenda of the minister’s trip involves a visit to the main base of submarines of Russia’s Pacific Fleet in the closed administrative-territorial unit of Vilyuchinsk, inspection of the pace of building an infrastructure of a base for nuclear submarines of new generation that includes directly a mooring zone and technical support facilities as well as facilities of social importance,” General Konashenkov said.

The minister will hear reports of commanders in the Eastern Military District, Pacific Fleet and submarine forces over reconstruction and development of a complex system of basing strategic and multipurpose submarines within the plan of building Russian Armed Forces up to 2020, the spokesman said.
