Russian science makes huge input in development of country, society - Medvedev

MOSCOW, February 08, 11:44 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has greeted Russian scientists on their professional day on Saturday.

The holiday was established in honour of organisation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which celebrates its 290th anniversary this year.

“Established in the epoch of Peter the Great’s reforms, it has made a huge input in development of the country and society, in the improvement of the country’s international authority,” Dmitry Medvedev said. “The Academy of Sciences has presented to the world the outstanding names and results, the promising ideas and recognised scientific schools. It has educated major Russian teachers, who wrote first training courses and who made a lot for establishment of the Russian industries.”

The president stressed that on scientific results nowadays depended directly not only the economic growth and new modern jobs, but also the living standards of millions of people, “and thus the Russian government has been paying priority attention to supporting the sciences and higher education, to development of competitive scientific research, to offering comfortable conditions for young scientists.”

Dmitry Medvedev wished to the Russian scientists health, interesting challenges and news achievements. He expressed confidence the Russian sciences would “not once in future promote their Fatherland with new achievements.
